Dear Customers -

We recently became aware that CecilsCountryStore.com has been the victim of an Online Imposter scam. Internet criminals apparently set up a dummy online store through which unsuspecting customers ordered products. These criminals used our business information/identifiers to process fraudulent credit card charges. Credit card processors then erroneously listed Cecils Country Store as the merchant source of the fraudulent charge. We would like to emphasize this is strictly an online scam and does not affect any in-store purchases.

We have taken steps to protect our business and customers by contacting local law enforcement. We are also filing reports with the Maryland Attorney General’s office, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).

As soon as we became aware of this situation we immediately took down our legitimate online store and deleted our website’s ability to accept online payments.

If you have been victimized by these criminals and have received fraudulent charges on your credit card or ordered products you never received from a website listed as Cecil’s Country Store, you need to take the following actions:

1) Notify your credit card company’s fraud department immediately. They should be able to reverse the charges and may issue you a new account number to prevent future fraud.

2) Check all your other bank and credit card accounts to make sure none of them have been compromised and there are no unauthorized charges.

3) Change all online passwords for all credit card accounts, bank accounts, or highly sensitive personal information.

4) File a complaint with the Federal Bureau of Investigations Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).
